Right now reading “The heart is a lonely hunter” by Carson McCullers. The copy I’m reading is old and the pages are soft like fabric.

Broken for You, by Stephanie Kallos
I am listening to this book on CD for the “second” time. It is excellent and comes highly recommended. The story takes place in Seattle, WA.

“Broken for you” really threw a couple of curve balls at me when I read it. I’ve always wanted to read it again and see how it felt the second time, knowing the trajectory of the story.

Right now I’m reading Gone with the Wind. I’ve always loved the movie and a few years ago I tried to listen to the book on tape, but the flagrant racism was just too abrasive to my ears. I recently read The Wind Done Gone and now I feel like I have to read Gone with the Wind. I’ve found it easier to read the slurs than to listen to someone else say them.

“Gone with the Wind” was the first book I read that was over 1,000 pages. I’ll never forget what a huge accomplishment that felt like to a young girl.

Right now I’m reading Layer Cake by J.J. Connolly about urban London drug culture. Its fascinating, though a little tough to read due to most of it written in cockney slang.

“To Destroy You is No Loss”. Found it on the shelf in the biographies section and how can you pass up a title like that? Amazing and humbling to read the journey of this family through the horrors of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge in the late 1970’s.

The last two blog posters are doing some summertime armchair traveling–but what difficult places you’ve chosen! These books both sound really compelling, especially for the types of readers who like to be transported to other places/times/cultures and learn something in the process.

Right now I am reading the Elm Creek Quilt series by Jennifer Chiaverine. This series revolves around the women of Elm Creek Quilts, a quilt camp. It is enjoyable reading about the women’s lives and the quilts they are making

The library even has a book of quilt projects based on the quilts in the Elm Creek quilt series! How cool is that?

I’m almost finished reading The Zookeeper’s Wife. It started out a little slow, but has been a good read with some new information for me about WWII in Poland. I’m really glad I picked this one up.
