I'm almost finished reading The Zookeeper's Wife. It started out a little slow, but has been a good read with some new information for me about WWII in Poland. I'm really glad I picked this one up.

"Remember Me?" by Sophia Kinsella

I usually peruse the new book section of the library as a habit. Chick lit author Sophie Kinsella (who also writes as Madeleine Wickham) is generally known for her Shopaholic series which readers either love -- or absolutely don't love. Her latest "Remember Me?" of March 2008 is a page turner, one of the guilty pleasure books versus the calibre of flaunting of reading "War and Peace" to literary friends. I started reading "Remember Me?" after work on a Friday night and finished the 389 pages on Saturday morning -- with a bit of sleep in between for good measure.

Twenty-eight-year-old Lexit Smart wakes up in a London hospital with no recollection of her past three years -- and a bit has happened in that time, including some plastic surgery, weight loss, capping of teeth, job promotion, new set of friends, new expensive home, and a husband to boot. We go with her as she discovers not only what has happened, how these things happened....and what she wants to have in her life. Amnesia, rather than existing simply to confuse her, is a motivating wake-up call for a reality check of looking at her values and needs within a luxurious setting with humor laced throughout.

She sounds like an remarkable person. This reminds me a little of a title my book group read several years ago--"Bold Spirit: Helga Estby's Forgotten Walk Across Victorian America." Helga's story was nearly lost because her family was a bit embarrassed by her "unwomanly" boldness; many of the original documents chronicling her journey were destroyed. It's amazing how many stories like these never get told.

And if you really enjoy this, there is "Persepolis 2" to read, as well as the DVD ... for which Satrapi co-wrote the screenplay and co-directed the film. View the theatrical trailer here: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/1934421/5327649

Right now I am reading the Elm Creek Quilt series by Jennifer Chiaverine. This series revolves around the women of Elm Creek Quilts, a quilt camp. It is enjoyable reading about the women's lives and the quilts they are making

Hi Lisa,

I have heard great things about this title, too. I haven't read it myself, but it's on my ever-growing list. The Bellingham Public Library does have a book club kit for The Book Thief, so that makes it easy for book groups. The kit contains 10 copies of the title with a reading guide and author information. Given your recommendation, I think it just got bumped higher on my reading list =)
